Turn Back the Years with Teeth Whitening

You’ve probably heard the saying that your eyes are the window to the soul? One of the first things we notice when meeting someone is their smile, and it does tend to set our initial impression of them – for better or worse. Some people hide their smile for fear that it doesn’t measure up against social expectations.

Professional teeth whitening is a very popular cosmetic dental option these days is . Appearance is usually the underlying motivation behind having a session of tooth whitening if aging, trauma or even disease has done a number on your once bright smile.

Aging Discolours of Your Teeth

Over time, drinking stain-producing liquids like coffee, wine, tea, and soft drinks, as well as foods like curries, berries and tomato sauce, teeth become a bit discoloured. Staining happens gradually over time, and it may take years for you to notice a dullness in your smile.

Aging also affects the colour of your teeth. As your teeth enamel wears away, the darker coloured dentin underneath the enamel starts to show, and teeth naturally become more yellow. When teeth are whitened, it not only takes years off your face, but it gives you an air of confidence that exudes health and youthfulness.

Types of Treatments

In-Office Professional Teeth Whitening

At Northmed Dental, we provide in-office whitening that combines years of experience with products like the Phillips Zoom! teeth whitening system to whiten teeth by up to 8 shades in about an hour. Zoom! uses a whitening gel along with a special LED light to provide a proven, safe and effective whitening process performed by our dental team.

Take Home Whitening Kits

Unlike the home whitener kits that are available at the local supermarkets, we offer custom whitening trays for our patients based on their individual needs, goals and dental history. Many off-the-shelf home whitening kits may increase tooth sensitivity and even over-bleach the teeth. The home whitening trays we create are as individual as the patients who use them, plus we’ll provide careful instruction so you know how to properly use them.

If there are underlying oral health issues in your teeth, our experienced dental team will work first to address these issues. Yellowing and discoloured teeth may be a warning sign of that should be diagnosed and treated in case there are underlying issues.
