When to Call an Emergency Dentist

At some point, you or a family member will have to deal with a dental emergency. Even if you come in for regular check and cleans and maintain great oral hygiene, you may chip a tooth or lose a dental crown. Some dental emergencies should be addressed immediately, while others may be able to wait a day or two.

What is an Emergency?

If you’re experiencing pain or had some kind of dental trauma, your first step is to call Northmed Dental on 09-884 8620 and let us know what’s going on. We provide emergency dental services across Auckland’s North Shore to patients who need relief and resolution for their problem.

Here are three common examples of dental emergencies we see at our office:

Knocked Out Tooth

Dr Salman can often save a knocked-out tooth, but we only have a few hours, so you must act quickly. Hold the tooth by the crown (the round biting surface), and place it in a container of milk, water, or saliva, then call us right away.

Severe Tooth Pain

A toothache always indicates a problem. It may have been caused by trauma, or you woke up one morning with a massive toothache. If it’s severe enough to disrupt your day, you’ll want to get it sorted ASAP. In extreme situations, you may be in danger of losing the tooth without treatment so call our Northcote dental office, and we can usually see you the same day.

Lost Dental Crown or Filling

Losing a filling or crown is usually not painful, perhaps you’ll be more sensitive to hot and cold and will be a bit uncomfortable. We still want to see you as soon as possible to protect the tooth and prevent any further damage. Gently clean the crown and wrap in tissue to keep it safe.

If a filling falls out, there isn’t much you can do until you come in for your emergency appointment besides avoid chewing or drinking hot or cold liquids around that area. We will need to clean out the tooth that used to hold the filling and re-fill with new amalgam or composite resin (white filling material)

In both cases, call our friendly staff to schedule your appointment.
