Northcote Dentist Shares How to Unlock the Power of Your Smile with Cerec, Same Day Dental Veneers

Never underestimate the power of a smile. A warm smile can brighten up even the dullest and darkest days, radiating confidence and spreading cheer! Some of us, however, often feel shy about our smiles due to less than perfect teeth. Perhaps your teeth aren’t as white as you’d like them. Or maybe you have a chipped tooth or a tooth with a filling that doesn’t quite match your other teeth. These are all common problems that many of us face. Luckily, modern dentistry gives us some great treatments, such as dental veneers, that will get you smiling again…And the best part is, you can have your dental veneers in place in a single visit thanks to a technology called CEREC!

What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are a great option for fixing a variety of cosmetic issues, from stained and discoloured teeth to chipped or irregularly shaped teeth. Veneers are thin, custom-made shells made from tooth-coloured materials (usually porcelain or resin composite) that are bonded to the front of your teeth, changing their colour, shape, size, or length.

What Issues Do Dental Veneers Fix?

  • Teeth that are discoloured: Stains can happen for a variety of reasons, including diet, root canals, drug side effects, or large fillings.
  • Teeth that are worn, chipped, or broken: Veneers can cover chips or wear, restoring teeth to their former glory.
  • Teeth that are misaligned or uneven: Veneers can fill in small areas, making teeth appear more even without the need for braces.
  • Teeth that are irregularly shaped: Craters or bulges can be easily fixed with veneers.
  • Teeth with wide gaps: Veneers can often be used to close the spaces between teeth.

Our experienced and friendly team have extensive experience bringing patients’ smiles back to their best and brightest with the help of dental veneers. What to Expect From Your Dental Veneer Treatment

Dental veneers treatment at Northmed Dental Centre consists of the following:

Treatment Planning: During the first appointment, you will receive a full examination and determine the best plan to achieve your desired results. If veneers are right for you, x-rays and dental impressions will be taken if needed. You’ll then receive all the details of what to expect from your treatment.

Preparation: The next step is to prepare your teeth for the veneers. Approximately ½ millimetre of the enamel from your teeth will be removed to make space for the veneers. This is usually an easy and pain-free process, but a local anaesthetic may be used for patients with sensitive teeth.

Using a technology called CEREC your veneers are then created right in the office thus eliminating the need to wait several days/weeks for your dental veneers to be ordered and manufactured from a 3rd party dental lab. To begin the CEREC process, Dr Salman uses the Primescan digital technology to capture precise images of the patient’s tooth. These images are then used to render a 3D model of what the new tooth will look like. Once the new design is finalised, the information is sent to the Primemill unit, where the restoration is carved out of a single piece of porcelain. This new veneer is then securely bonded onto the prepared tooth. All restorations are colour-matched to the surrounding teeth so the new restoration blends in with the rest of the teeth. If used as part of a smile makeover, the colour of the porcelain can be modified to create a whiter brighter smile.

Visit 3 Bonding: The new veneer is then securely bonded onto the prepared tooth. All restorations are colour-matched to the surrounding teeth so the new restoration blends in with the rest of the teeth (if used as part of a smile makeover, the colour of the porcelain can be modified to create a whiter brighter smile). Once the fit is perfect, the veneers are then bonded to your teeth using a special cement. In a couple weeks, we’ll see you back to check in on how your new veneers are working for you and make sure there aren’t any complications.

Caring for your veneers

Another great thing about veneers is that they don’t require any special care once in place. Just maintain your usually healthy oral hygiene routine with regular brushing, flossing, and antibacterial mouthwash when necessary.
